Japanese Red Cedar in Heritage Park

Location

About the Tree

Japanese Red Cedar is an evergreen conifer with a wonderful pyramidal shape. In the States it grows to 50 - 60 feet but in its native Japan it can grow to 150 feet.

A number of the conifers loose their lower branches as they mature. The branches in the crown shade out the lower branches. This is true of Japanese Red Cedars. The one in Heritage Park is unusual in that hasn't lost any of its lower branches giving it fullness not often seen in the species.
